The mission of Scoutmaster's Council is to provide a leadership portal for Cadets to serve the Scouting community, provide interested Scouts with information about life as a Cadet and the application process, and upholding the reputation of running the best Annual Scout Camporee in the United States. This year, the Camporee's 51st year, USMA will be host to over 5,000 Scout s from around the nation. Additionally the camporee is honoring 2LT David E. Rylander, a graduate of the class of 2011 and was a prominent member of the Scoutmaster's Council during his time as a Cadet. 2LT Rylander was killed in action on May 2, 2012 by injuries sustained due to an improvised explosive device in Logar province, Afghanistan while leading as an engineer officer. During 2LT Rylander's time with the club he was the Cadet in charge of organizing and executing the closing ceremonies and the pass and review.

All of us here at the SMC Camporee would like to thank every troop that came out this weekend for another successful year. We saw a lot of smiling faces this morning, and got some great feedback for the future. Make sure you stay tuned on Facebook at:

for upcoming events, and information about next year.
Thanks again!

NYS Troopers say scout troops, cadre, and leaders should not attempt to make a LEFT at the OP Charlie Turnoff. Just continue down the road, do a 360 in the traffic circle, and come back to make a safe RIGHT turn. It will cost you 10 minutes in travel time, but that is a small price to pay for scout safety. Consult the Driving Route Map in the Apps ' Materials' section.
The Advanced Team reports that Lake Frederick has a few Gnats and Horseflies. Bring bug spray.
New projection is for some chilly nights during the camporee. Ground is still cold from the winter. Bring warm gear and extra layers for under sleeping bag. Light gloves for the mornings. Ground is a little soft for vehicles so take guidance from TCPs.
Expect a heavy fog (damp conditions) in morning.
80+ Cadre moved to Lake Frederick this morning. TCPs will begin to be manned and Anthony Wayne Inprocessing and Bus rotation begins. Sleeping cots for Cadre are being distributed and Camp Site Manager Tents are going up.
Second wave of 18 cadre arrived Lake Frederick this afternoon. Zodiaks are being replaced, life jackets tested, GP Mediums lifted, and the S4 is filling out 2062s for everything from $10,000.00 radios to 30cent D-links. DOL had no blankets to give out this year...so be prepared with your own warm gear.
The first twenty-five cadets hit SP on time this morning and are occupying Lake Frederick now! Setting up the TOC, emplacing latrines, postioning water buffalos, marking out camp sites, testing radios and putting up signage. Next wave of cadre leaves after class at 1600 this afternoon. Grass is wet, air is cool.
The toughest, thankless, and loneliest cadet duty on Friday is standing out on the Traffic Control Points for eight hours directing traffic and listening for the sounds of the Lost Scoutmaster. Slow down and give that soldier a box of Girl Scout Cookies!

Be Prepared with a solar or other charger...there is one electric outlet on all of Lake Frederick, and the Scoutmasters say it is reserved for coffee making!
...is coming to write up the camporee for an article. Look sharp!
The camporee is up on twitter, linked in, and facebook. Follow on WP_SMC or tweet at #camporee2013
A number of our cadet-athletes are hosting some 'tryout' style events beginning at 1600. Priority #1 is move into your campsite...but then come on over to the parade field.
